Well over 100 returning members and 20 new people turned out today for the first race, with only a few glitches…” does anyone have a spare helmet” on at least two occasions.
It was great to see many members returning for the weekly slog around the course, and many new faces. We have introduced a teams event for the week before Christmas, giving competitors a chance to meet other members, but more on that closer to the date.
It was a pleasure to see Doctor (Roger Campbell) Bike from Palm Beach Supercycles back out the front showering us with tips. Just recapping, when competing in triathlon events your bike helmet must be securely fastened to your head,(allowing a two finger gap between the chin strap and your chin) before you touch/remove your bike from the rack, and then upon returning your bike to the rack, your helmet must remained fastened until the bike is racked – or risk disqualification! The need to ensure your seat is at the correct height to ensure maximum efficiency. To find seat height, place your heels on the pedals and pedal backwards. You’ve found the optimum seat height when your legs are completely extended at the bottoms of the pedal strokes with your heels on the pedals
On the point of racking, its earlier in the season, but we only have limited space. Please ensure that when placing your bike on the racks that, your bike is rack alternative to the next bike, no handle bars together on the same side, it allows for uniform spacing and maximum use of the space.

As competitors in the Twin Towns Triathlon event and bike riders on the road, we must ensure that the road rules are complied with. We will be having the pleasure of the Highway Patrol visit us so address the group on the road rules as well as best practice. You MUST STOP AT RED LIGHTS, NO TRACK STANDING- AT LEAST ONE FOOT DOWN. Indicate your intention to turn, no drafting- an issue that will be raised a few times throughout the season. This year we have introduced an ‘Emergency Contact’ form, hopefully we will never need the information, but if we do its there. Please when completing the form, make your writing legible. Also being collected is your email address, which will allow us to share information with you, so if you have already completed an emergency contact form and have not received an email this week, please send me an email and I’ll update the mailing list.
We are taking orders for new Twin Towns Triathlon Uniform, see Julie Bloor with your sizes, here is a link to the Uniform page.
A member for the past 11 years, Des Gooda has been re-accredited as an official triathlon coach. If you are interested there is a form at the registration table. Des is also available for FREE advice any other time.
We are grateful for the support of our sponsors and each week they supply vouchers for our random draw

Marshall’s for next week:
Woodlands/Darlington Drive Roundabout – Ruth Tutton
Fraser/Amaroo Drive Intersection – Des Gooda
A condition of approval to hold our weekly event is the requirement to have marshals wearing –reflective safety vests on two intersection. We are also required to have phone contact with our Time Keepers/ registrations desk. Complying with this we have the printed the Time Keepers mobile number on each of the vests available for collection at registration. We ask that you take your own mobile with you to your marshalling point.
As a Marshall – YOU ARE NOT TO DIRECT TRAFFIC, YOU ARE VISUAL REMINDER TO MOTORISTS. YOUR JOB IS NOT TO TELL CYCLISTS.
You may simply state that there is traffic coming, or bikes coming no more. It is up to the competitors to observe the road and to decide whether they believe it is safe to make the turn. Competitors should not rely on the road marshals for advice. The fluro jackets they wear serve as an indicator to traffic that something is on and that is all.
We still have plenty of vacancies for Race Day Marshalls, please send me an email via the Contacts Page to claim a date
Take care and train safe,
