Race 1 of 28 – 1st Qualifying
Welcome back to Twin Towns Tri to all our returning members and all those of you new to our club and or the sport of triathlon.

Dan, Trev, Isaac & Andy
This week we have given editorial licensee to Julie West one of our hard working committee members;
Well – a cool, breezy and cloudy morning greeted us this morning for the first triathlon of the Twin Towns season.
We had 97 members and 16 non members show up for the event.
In the swim, there was a mass peak hour entry into the pool at 6.15 – this seemed to be a very popular departure time. Handicapping will no doubt sort that in a couple of weeks.
Not too many dramas on the bike, although I did notice one enthusiastic rider coming back past Twin Towns Juniors who decided to head up Fraser Drive again, only to discover their error and then turn again into Flame Tree. Whoever that was, I hope you didn’t do that shitty steep hill up Flame Tree twice.
The run found many finely attuned athletes finishing strong, as well as many hares and tortoises.
Heidi, our VP stepped up in Val’s absence with presentation and did a great job. Unfortunately, no vouchers to give away but that will be all good to go next week. Please slow down at the desk when calling out your number if there are a lot of people, otherwise you run the risk of an inaccurate time and split.
All athletes wanting to compete in Club Championships at the end of the season must complete at least one marshalling slot. You can still come down early and do your swim/run leg before you head out, and do the bike leg whilst out there if you are worried about not getting your exercise hit on that morning.
Roger, who also acted as “cone man” in bike transition this week gave a safety talk. Main things to remember – obey all road rules, don’t run red lights (instant DQ and also putting our event in danger of being stopped if complaints received by police), no riding more than 2 abreast (but we don’t in tri’s do we now, let along drafting). In transition, leave your helmet clipped up until you get off your bike. Also, pay attention to the pink crosses on Glen Ayr Drive/Ash Drive corner. There are marshalls on this corner and in future, DQ’s will apply.
Rob was “bike nazi” today (as he is every week) and warned those who would dare to rack their bikes in the incorrect manner. Thanks Andy for marking the arrows, it’s pretty straight forward and easy to follow. If not, you run the risk of Rob hiding your bike or letting the air out of your tyres.
Congrats go to Lisa Ross who came 15th in the 70.3 triathlon in Las Vegas. Good luck to Des, Ruth and Jolyn competing in the ITU event in London. Also many club members competing in iron man at Mooloolaba this weekend.
Our club news editor was sadly missed this morning but I have it on good authority that he is in hospital having an operation on his dick, his “append-dick” that is. We wish you a speedy recovery Stu. (And no editing allowed on this newsletter in case you proof read before putting on website).
Have a great week and train safely.
To conclude, some feedback from some members:-
Angie – extra marshalls were very helpful on the bike course
Liam – good fun, almost threw up (was his first tri)
Owen – great time had, he will be back
Isaac – nearly died in the water, couldn’t breath (did his first intermediate tri)
Tracy – good to be back, bit of a shock running off the bike
Andy – tapered 3 months too early
thanks Jules

Kent – the numbers man
