Twin Town Triathlon Race  Report 13 October

Well it was only a matter of time, day light saving kicked in last Sunday morning and some of those Queenslanders members have already started whinging, its only for a couple of months!  What a turn around from last weeks beautiful weather, this morning was less than pleasant. It is concerning when the pool is considerably warmer than the air temperature and its nearing the middle of October.

Paul Woodger sharing some European Bike stories

But none the less, we had over 18 new competitors, some of those had raced previously, but some heard about a great club that races each week from September through until early March. In all just over 120 starters this week. A gentle reminder that if everyone gets there 5 minutes earlier, it helps get everyone through registration by the 06:00 cut off.

With Noosa only a couple of weeks away, our traditional double distance race will be held next week.  Double Distance is not compulsory, the single distance race will still be held at your normal start time. For those who wish to do Double Distance, there are a few rules/guidelines that must be followed;

1. Bikes MUST be racked on the racks closest to the bitumen service road
2. You MUST have operating front and rear lights
3. Registration opens at 04:30 and CLOSES AT 05:30AM

MARSHALLS FOR DOUBLE DISTANCE
Woodlands Drive/Darlington Drive Roundabout – Michelle Jones
Amaroos Drive/Fraser Drive intersection – Craig Broadhurst

As a guide, to a double distance start time, just double your normal time and work with that, so if it normally takes your 1 hr 15 min allow 2 hr 30min to do the race, with a start time of 05:00am

If you have read the history of the club, you will see its been operating for over 23 years, it that time there have been a lot of changes, particulary the residential development immediately adjacent to the service road and our bike racking area. We have received complaints from our neighbours regarding the loud talking, laughing etc. PLEASE BE MINDFUL of our neighbours and either keep the noise down or move over towards the pool. Also take the opportunity to remind others if you believe they are getting a little boisterous!

The uniform order has been placed and fingers crossed it will be ready before Noosa, for those that haven’t yet paid, Next week would be great.

RANDOM DRAW WINNERS
1. Val Lambard- Palm Beach Super Cycles, Mary-Ann Shuker- Storm Cycles, Doug Neil- Studio 4, Darren Jones- Kingscliff Cycles, Scott Murray- South Tweed Cycles, Luke Heron- Cannabil Clothing.
Unfortunatly with the President and Vice President away, there was a slight technical hitch, the random draw vouchers were safely secured with the President, arrangements have been made to break into his house and retrieve them (only joking, I’ll have them before next Saturday)

Dr (Roger Campbell) Bike
Following reports of riders crossing over the painted pink crosses on the short up hill section of Ash Drive, Roger took the opportunity to watch riders come around the corner. Whilst there he witnessed 25 vehicles coming down the hill, he also witnessed a small number of riders cross onto the incorrect side of the road, put themselves in extreme danger should a vehicle have come towards them. To avoid crossing over, your need to start out wide upon approaching the corner. He also saw a number of riders turning the corner with their inside pedal down, that’s a recipe for disaster should that pedal come in contact with the ground throwing you off. Then there were the riders that left it too late to change gears and had to get off an walk to the top of the hill. Remember to choose/select the correct gear you intend riding up the hill, before you get to the hill.

LOST PROPERTY
Last week we had a bike saddle bag handed in after it fell off on Fraser Drive, an annoncemnt was made at presentation looking for the owner, someone claimed it believe it belonged to someone else, long story short Jo Ward posted on our facebook page that the bag belonged to Lorraine Bishop a first timer. The bag is currently in safe hands with Doug Neil and will be available for collection at the registration desk next week, you will be required to supply proof of purchase, photo identification etc.

Today, a black ‘Lumar 525’ helmet was left behind, that also is in Dougs safe custody. If its your an you need it before new week, contact me again providing proof of purchase, and photo id and then , we’ll make some arrangements to get it back to you.
