Originally scheduled for Saturday 5th March, our club champs were postponed until 19th March after torrential rains flooded much of the Northern Rivers region, resulting in a declared natural disaster.

Perfect conditions today for our delayed Club Championship race with 50 competitors across the 3 races. We had a very strong field of 33 competitors racing for glory in the Club Champs with some fantastic competition with a few very close results

Big thanks to all the people who helped make the day a success including Dave de Closey and Amy Wright for running the timing system, Clive Pearce, Andrew Armstrong and Lorraine Bassett for their help with the breakfast, and our marshalls today – Dave Hogan, Vaughn Skelly, Judy Murray and Robyn Barry. Thanks to Stu Crawford and John King for their photography on the day – awesome work gents. Check out our Facebook group page for some excellent photos, just too many to have here.

A special thanks to our registrar Kev Bannerman who has got up early all season to man the registration desk with his unique money handling skills – even when not feeling 100%, Kev has turned up every week to help. We really appreciate your help and support Kevie.

Clive – his broken foot prevented him from competing, but didn’t stop him from manning the BBQ with Andrew!
Lorraine – a big friendly smile for everyone

Awards

A huge shout out to Michelle Jones for all her hard work all season and for taking on the role of arranging all the winners’ prizes and awards. Michelle was voted overwhelmingly by her peers as Club Person of the Year – a very worthy recipient for all her hard work throughout the year in what may have been one of the most challenging seasons in the club’s history.
(Awww, thank you DJ and everyone for voting – MJ)

Nev Salmon U18 Encouragement Award
Remy Hawkins

Remy was the deserving winner due to his improvement over the season, skill level over the 3 disciplines and commitment to racing throughout the season. Well done Remy!

Presidents Award
Melanie Duff

Mel has been a great ambassador for the club by introducing new members and promoting the club via Facebook and Instagram by posting photos and stories throughout the year. The lifeblood of any club is attracting new members and we really want to thank Mel for her positive and proactive attitude in keeping the club visible.

Galah Award
Richard Mourant

An easy winner here with a bike carrier incident (he had nearly forgotten), resulting in dragging a fellow club member’s bike up the M1 for 30km – best to let Richie elaborate on that one!

Most Courageous Act on 2 Wheels
Ian Curnow

Ian has had more than his share of crashes on training rides over the past year or so. Despite this, he’s managed to return to triathlon towards the end of the season.
Welcome back and stay safe Ian.

Finally, I just wanted to thank the outgoing committee members Viv Wright and Rod Sewell for their work this season, and welcome the new committee members Simon Harradence and Josh Horsley. Simon and Josh will join Michelle Jones, David de Closey, Scott Thomson, Rowena Smith and Jo Colja under the guidance of new president Kent Holmes.

Josh, Rowena, Dave, Rod, Darren, Viv, Amy, Michelle, Jo, Scott
(absent – Simon, Kent and Kev)

We had some positive news regarding the pool for next season and the committee will work towards the new season over the coming months with commencement dates etc to be confirmed and announced. I would also like to thank all members of our great club, for their support this year and particularly the marshalls – it means a lot to the committee that these roles are filled to ensure we follow regulations and can have a safe race.

Have a great off-season and I look forward to seeing you all next Twinnies season 2022-23.

Cheers,
Departing President
Darren Jones
