President’s Message October 2011
Well the 2011/2012 triathlon season has started and before you know it we’ve done 6 races already. Time really does fly.
This year already we have seen lots of new faces signing up for triathlon and the return of many familiar faces. A big welcome is extended to all, I hope you have a fantastic season and enjoy the workout.
As a lot of you would already know from previous seasons, the Twin Towns Triathlon club does not just focus on triathlon. We are all part of the wider community and this has seen club members get involved in the Kingscliff triathlon as not only competitors but also as volunteers. We have also been involved in the Early Intervention fun run as well as taking an active role in Cancer Council activities across many areas.
The Kingscliff triathlon is particularly relevant as we have entered into an agreement with QSM Sports whereby they will contribute $1,000 to the club provided we assist at each event they stage in Kingscliff. The funds raised from this involvement are intended for use on an electronic timing system. Research has commenced on this project and we are currently looking at options that will give us a timing system that will cover our unique race event and allow for future expansion. I will give you more detail as we proceed.
The club website is up and running. In fact, if you are reading this you already know this. Peter Nelson has done a great job with the site and Stu Crawford has been his wingman on the project and has taken over the day to day running of the site. His weekly post race reports are eagerly awaited and his typing skills are getting better along with his collar bone.
There are quite a few things we want to enhance the website with including a “tradies link” so club members can find a fellow club member who has trade skills they require. This will be discussed further and when we have an idea of what to do we will let you know.
Noosa triathlon is on in a couple of weeks. As usual quite a few club members make the trip north to compete. This will leave more room in the pool for those remaining. Twin Towns always does well as a club and this year will probably be no different. Good luck to all who are competing.
Until next time, take care, enjoy your training and stay safe.
Chris Watt
President.
