Race Report 29 December 2012
The last race of the year for Twin Towns Triathlon Club and it was back to business as usual, Christmas cheer was still in the air, and for some in the stomach, combined with the warm to hot conditions some people appeared to be struggling. Others opted for the early 06:00 start in an attempt to regain some of their fitness.

Our attendance was up in the 90’s , welcoming back those that have been missing for a few weeks. Others are away enjoying the holiday period. There was still plenty of talk about the success of last weeks Team Challenge, there have been a few suggestions made of how it can be improved.
For those new to the club, our club championships are the last event on our Twin Towns Tri 2012/13 Season Calendar, which is followed later on by the Presentation Dinner – more on that closer to the date. One criteria is that you must have completed 12 races. I noticed a few people yesterday checking how many they had already completed, and those checking on others times! If you would like to know how many races you have done, Doug has a book with the dates and splits of each and every race everyone has ever done at Twinnies.
Milestone
Dave Proudfoot, former Club Secretary celebrated 300 club races – well done

Doctor Bike Junior was back up on the pedestal this week discussing the correct positioning of your helmet, it needs to cover the top of your head, not pushed back to give your hair a blow dry whilst hurtling down Fraser Drive. He then touched on skewers, there those things that hold your front and back wheels in, a little maintenance can avoid wheels dropping out when you pop a mono. If you have a need to remove the skewer, be mindful of the small springs on each side. They are a conical shape and the big end goes to the outside on both sides, if you put them in wrong you won’t be able to re-fit your wheel, and when re-fitting your wheel- hold the brake on, it helps to centre the wheel.

A mind-blowing trivial fact
It was the accepted practice in Babylon 4,000 years ago that for a month after the wedding, the bride’s father would supply his son-in-law with all the mead he could drink. Mead is a honey beer and because their calendar was lunar based, this period was called the honey month, which we know today as the honeymoon.
