Twin Towns Tri Race Report Saturday 4 February 2012

The weather gods shined brightly today and presented us with perfect racing conditions, with that came an overwhelming number of competitors. Following last weeks unpredictable weather the  breakfast was postponed until today, no doubt this had something to do with the near record number in attendance. Thanks again to Julie and Julie and it appears John King may have played some part.

Another milestone was recorded today with the Honourable treasurer Mr Jim Collins racking up a monumental 400 club races over an 18 year period.

The winner of the ‘Russ Evans’ memorial towel for leading point scorer at the end of January went to Alex Gilks ( Ryan Stoddart is leading but has already won a towel as has Joe Mollica in 2nd place)

Four weekly point score winners for January were Ron Martinenko, Lewis Saunders, Priscilla Van Wyk and Con Vayano went into a draw and the winner of the $100 Twin Towns Voucher went to Priscilla.

With last weeks bad weather expected to continue over the weekend, three club members decided to chicken out and thought that they might have a go at the Australian Cycle Sprint Championships in  our Capital, congratulations to Des Gooda  coming in 8th, Adam Chadburn 11th and Luke Hughes 17th there was some discussion whether that was is in their age group or outright. The majority agreed we considered that their ability it was most probably outright placing….. Again well done.

Doctor Bike mounted his podium again and discussed the skill in looking back over your shoulder whilst riding and keeping a straight line. He then moved onto motivation and why some of us question the benefit in getting out of bed early to come down to the club for  a swim ride and run. He talked about his experience training with Olympic athletes’ and how they dug deep about different things that got them to where they are, getting through the endless questions of why people continue to compete even when it hurts, or you’ve broken a finger nail, got a sore heart, a sore tore etc thinking, Paul said he was a cheap skate his motivation was he wanted to get his $8 worth.
