Race report 7/1/12
What started off as a wet looking day turned out to be an absolute cracker. Most people woke to a cloudy outlook and then the clouds parted and the registration desk that had been quiet until 5:50am was suddenly over-run. This brought me to my first house keeping point, that is, that registration closes at 6:00am and you need to be out of bed earlier.
We were visited this morning by a delegation from a triathlon club in Aichi, Japan. It was great to see them filming and taking in the sights and sounds of a regular club triathlon Aussie style. Thank you to Ian Walker and Karen Lowrie who brought Yukio Ichida, Yasuyo Shioya and Naoaki Shioya (in photo with me) to the club along with their host and tour guide Tony Luxton. This group is looking to expand their club and are soaking up ideas as they travel around the country. We should look seriously at staging an away triathlon to Japan.
The Russ Evans memorial towel awarded to the leading point scorer at the end of December went to Joe Mollica. Well done Joe.
There were five club members who qualified to go in to the draw for the $100 gift voucher. This is chosen from the weekly handicap winners for December, they were George Saunders, Peter McPhee, Cindy Robertson, Wendy Wise and Sonny Warner. The draw was won by Wendy Wise. Congratulations Wendy.
Race milestones were celebrated today by Phil Salter and Mary Anne Shuker (200 races) Stuart McGill, Craig Broadhurst and Gerard Robards (150 races). It was pointed out that Gerry’s races took quite a while to complete. They’re a tough crowd Gerry. Well done to all of you.
Don’t forget the idea I had in the shower. The one about picking your favourite song. If I get a good response I will look at compiling a play list of songs to keep us entertained come presentation night.
Random draw winners this week were; Kev Bannerman, Ryan Stoddart, Alex Gilks, Warren Copping, Joe Mollica and Noel Coleman.
I forgot to mention the Kingscliff Triathlon. I have sent an email out to those whose address we have to gauge a response to volunteering as marshals. If you didn’t get the email but would like to help out let me know or send us an email.
Stu is on holidays, so I get to play with the website, hope he likes it.
