Race 5 of 28
Someone upstairs must be looking over us as again we had perfect conditions to race in! With more old faces turning up the queue is getting longer and longer. If everyone could get to registration 5 minutes earlier it would certainly relieve some of Doug ‘s stress as he tries to process everyone through as quickly as possible

Family Affair
An issue that has come to light is Drafting – drafting is illegal. The committee is calling upon all members to report those found drafting, they are only cheating themselves. You can tell you fellow competitor to get off your a@#se or let the ladies know their shoulder number when you go through transition. The Committee with issue appropriate penalties!
Drafting – The Triathete’s Rules of the Road |
Drafting, what is it and how can you avoid it? Essentially the bicycle portion of a triathlon is an individual time trial. The key point being individual. It is the objective of the triathlete to overcome one enormous force, aerodynamic drag, on their own, without any “boost” from other competitors. Therefore, drafting is the act of riding behind another cyclist in an area of reduced air pressure created in the wake of that leading cyclist. The trailing or drafting cyclist uses less energy to maintain the same speed as the cyclist they are trailing. This creates an unfair advantage. Drafting another cyclist during a triathlon is outright illegal. So, let’s focus on how we can avoid drafting and the time penalties and disqualifications associated with it.
For information in relating to drafting have a look at this post .

On a side note, congratulations to my mate Bill Chaffey who after getting run over by a truck on his last training ride before a Forster Ironman 7 years ago and left near to death, he has just ticked off another box by completing Kona’s Ironman on the weekend finishing 2nd in his para-triathlon category. He has also been nominated by the The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) for September’s Athlete of the Month award, good luck & well Done Bill
