It was good see over 60 competitors venture out this morning after an extremely wet week with flooding and road damage in Banora as well as all over the Tweed. As Stuey advised everyone yesterday, our run course at the roundabout at Banora shops was effected with a diversion through the car park. It wasn’t a problem and I don’t think anyone was worried by the change. This detour will be for a couple of weeks until the council fixes the problem on the corner.

Milestones

After being missing action for the last few weeks due to extra run legs, Ben Hall was finally awarded his towel for being the Point Score winner for January. Well done Ben!

Events last week

A number of our members competed in challenging races last weekend.

Terry Simpson gave us a wrap up of the Goodewindi ‘Hell of the West’. Also competing were Kyle Mooney, Scott and Sebastian Thompson. They drove through floodwaters and a few detours to be welcomed by a very friendly town eager to support the race. Unfortunately the swim was cancelled due to a problem with water quality so they ran 3k down the main street instead. The bike was eventful with water over the road in a number of places but they were cheered on by locals handing out extra water bottles and bananas. From all accounts it was a great event and Terry recommends everyone go out there and compete. Thanks for sharing the experience Terry and well done guys on your effort.

Coach Des Gooda competed in the Australian Alpine Ascent Triathlon beginning at Jindabyne and finishing almost at the top of Mount Kosciusko. The day before the event the area was still shrouded in smoke from the bushfires, but the weather quickly changed on race day to drizzle, rain, sleet, fog and huge winds. Des was battered by the elements for just over 8 hours with Ruth sending updates and supporting him along the way. There were 48 starters and only 25 finished! Des had a fantastic race, finishing 1st in his age group – an awesome effort! It’s not a race many return to do again as there were only 2 in the field that had previously competed. Even though it was an incredibly tough event, he loved his day out in the elements and definitely recommends the experience.

AGM

Don’t forget the AGM on March 7 after the race. We would love new people to join the committee so fill in your nomination form beforehand.

Club Championships

Club Championships is coming up at the end of next month – 28th March. Make sure you have completed 12 club races and volunteered for at least one marshalling duty to be eligible to compete.

That’s all for this week. Enjoy the weekend. Tracy 🙂
