It was great to see around 70 keen triathletes turn up for our first race of 2020. Conditions were very warm but luckily the wind didn’t come up until after we finished. We had a good start to the New Year with all competitors arriving before the registration cut off of 5.50am – this made Kevi very happy! Congratulations to Alex Gilks who was our point score winner for December. Welcome to our new member Sally Kingston who was particularly eager not to miss the race start by arriving at 3am from Oxenford! Daylight savings always gets a few!
A big congratulations to the gorgeous Holly Robards for completing her 100th Twin Towns Race. I’m sure Holly has actually clocked up a lot more races than that as she is one of our original juniors – I can remember Holly with my kids competing in the kids tri in the late 90’s! Great effort Holly!!
Des spoke today about pacing yourself throughout the season. He said to listen to your body – when you’re tired don’t go as hard and work toward a hard race once a month or every 3 weeks.
This morning we had 60 seconds with Val Lambard. Val has been been competing in Triathlon for 27 years and has been a Twinnies member since 1993. She has been President of the club for 10+ years. We all have to thank Val for the introduction of the timing system, spending countless hours researching and testing the system before its introduction in her last year as President. Val has competed in 2 Ironman events and 21 Noosa’s. Val is one of 3 people who have been awarded life membership of our club.
Joe Kelly Memorial Teams Race.
On Saturday 25th January we will be holding our Joe Kelly Memorial Teams Race. “Canadian” Joe was a much loved member of our club who was tragically killed while competing in the Brisbane Twilight Half Marathon event when a branch fell from a tree during a freak storm. This race is an annual event and his wife, Laura is sponsoring a Canadian Breakfast after the race. Scott Thompson will be cooking pancakes on the BBQ and if you have anything Canadian bring it along and wear it while you race.

A reminder that if you haven’t had a turn marshalling, we’d really like you to check out the roster and put your name down as we are struggling to fill the spots – it is a council requirement for us to have Marshalls in order for our race to go ahead. Thank you in advance!!
