Race Report 1 December 2012

Well last week was a busy one for many at the  Twinnies, preparing for the Kingy Tri either competing or marshaling. By all accounts everyone had a good time with a much appreciated swim on an outgoing tide, only to find wind against you on every turn and a very hot run. With over 30 volunteers from the club assisting  in the transition area and water stations. QSMSports and more importantly Chris Watt appreciated your assistance.

Milestones: Marg Kearney is the first woman in the club to have completed 400 club races – Congratulations.

Whilst away chasing schoolies and toolies in Byron Bay again this weekend, Julie West accepted the challenged of penning a few words for this weeks report;

Was a lovely morning for triathletes at Club Banora, run leg getting hotter every week, a slight breeze to offer tail assistance and head wind challenge.

97 competitors with 4 old faces returning first time this season.

Dr Roger Bike had lube on his mind this morning, it is interesting to know just how many little holes there is to apply lube to on your bike.

Dr Paul bike discussed bunches, not the banana type, but “riding bunches”.  There is an etiquette to be followed – the riders at the front should not peel off, instead riders should approach from behind one at a time, sort of like a progressive barn dance.  This prevents there being four riders abreast on the road giving motorists an opportunity to yell abuse.  In addition, your wheel should stay behind the rider in front, never overlapping.  Paul used Roger as an example who was the cyclist in front, who apparently has the tendency to fart and sneeze as he rides, and could tend to push him off course.  Staying directly behind him (but unfortunately downwind) puts your safety first but remember to keep your eyes ahead on him for possible hazards, which is fairly easy cos Roger is small in stature and you can look over the top of him.

Craig Broadie crashed his bike, got a flat, grazed his knee but he soldiered on, popped into his house, did a bike change and continued the race.  His home address will be posted shortly on the website to assist anyone else in future who has the same problem and requires a bike change, he is happy to oblige.

Doug DQ’d a rider this morning who ran a red light.  Whoops though, he then discovered that the rider wasn’t even participating in the tri today as he kept riding past the club instead of turning in.

Karen Lowrie won the $100 voucher today.  Standing up also for the award were Matt Sands, Noel Bettosi and Val Lambard.  And just saying, thanks sponsors for your continued support and prizes each week, and members please clap EVERYONE as they receive their prize (poor Dave Declosey) nearly got a boo this morning when he won his drink bottle.  But that may be because his name comes out “randomly” too often.

The committee has decided to reduce the entry fee for SCHOOL students to $5 effective from next week.

We have a great response for Christmas Party at the Creek Restaurant so far with nearly 50 having their names down.  It’s not to late to add your name, you have until Friday.  We encourage new members to come along and forge friendships with fellow members.  $20 for members includes 2 course meal, 2 drinks & lucky door ticket. $35 for non members.  If you want to add your name – email Julie@cummingswest.com.au and please pay by next Saturday.

Last but not least, Saturday December 22nd will by the Christmas Tri Funday.  Entry is $5 and teams of 3 will be drawn randomly on the day.  You will be given a ticket, you then find your other 2 team members and decide between you who does what leg.  The bike leg will be three laps around Darlington Drive, but the swim and run will remain same.  The Ball Family are sponsoring breakfast that day.  Great prizes to be won and another marvellous opportunity to socialize with fellow tri club members.

Marshalls for 8 December

Fraser & Amaroo Drive: Trevor Lawes

Here is another interesting fact of life that you will need to know at the next trivia night
What do bullet proof vests, fire escapes, wind shield wipers and laser printers have in common?

They were all invented by women.

Have a great week.
