This morning we had 19 keen members turn up early to complete our second Double Distance event of the season. Conditions were perfect for racing and we were graced with a beautiful sunrise while out on the bike. A further 37 members preferred a little more of a sleep in and raced in our normal distance and intermediate events. Dave de Closey yet again missed out on racing while he managed both events manually and using the timing system. A huge thank you to Dave – I really don’t know where we’d be with out his commitment and management of the Timekeeping!

Marshalls

An extra special thank you to Tim Eade, Val Lambard, Cheryl Atkinson and Ian Curnow who spent double time out Marshalling on the course today!

Next week Marshalls are; Sharon Klein on Fraser, Warren Copping at Woodlands Drive, Matt Stanley at Lochlomond RAB andLorraine Bassett at the Tooloona RAB.

60 Seconds with Vaughan Skelly

Congratulations to Vaughan Skelly for completing his 100th race today. What better time than to also have 60 seconds with Vaughan to find out a little bit about him……Vaughan was formally an Australian Gymnastics Champion and competed in the 1999 World Gymnastics Championships! Pretty impressive!! He is a family man and his goals in life are to stay fit and enjoy life. Vaughan is a fan of Pearl Jam, loves a pizza or two at Earth and Sea and would one day like to try skydiving!

501 Races For Guy Davoren

Congratulations to Guy Davoren for reaching the significant milestone of 500 races! Today was actually Guy’s 501st race. Guy has been a member of Twinnies since 2001 and up until changes caused by COVID he was our regular ‘drinks man’ – always arriving early to mix up the electrolyte drinks that were provided at the race finish. A great achievement Guy!

AGM

This morning after the race our Annual General Meeting was held. We would like to thank Twin Towns Services Club Directors; Returning Officer Sharon Styman, Chairman Brian Brown, Directors Ken Culpitt, Ross O’Leary and new Directors John Keating and Regina Rogers        who were present to oversee the meeting. Stuart Crawford presented his last President’s report as he steps down from the position. Kevin Bannerman spoke on behalf of all members in thanking Stuart for his time as President and for his hard work and exceptional commitment to the club.

Kevi and Stu – Thank you for your commitment to the club!

Stuart has overseen the club transition from a manual to an electronic timing system which has been extremely successful. Stuart was responsible for negotiating a Covid Safe pathway for the club to return to racing this season and has ensured that our new policies and procedures were adhered to. This has been a challenging task! We all thank Stuart for his time as President.

Kevin Bannerman is also stepping down from the Committee and we thank him for turning up very early every race day morning to collect the money and especially the organisation of our Super Teams Events – hopefully we will still be able to call on him to help with these events in the future! Thank you to Christian Andrews who is also stepping down from the Committee.

We welcome our new Committee Members – Rod Sewell, Viv Wright and Rowena Smith who will join our new President, Darren Jones; Secretary, Michelle Jones; Treasurer, Kent Holmes; Time Keeper, Dave de Closey and General Committee members Jo Colja, and Scott Thompson.

Clive Pearce baked amazing muffins and a superb Pumpkin and Fruit loaf for all to have with tea and coffee during the AGM. Thank you Clive! Everyone loved your tasty treats!

It’s great to see our junior numbers soaring with a total of 58 under 12 years old. Without the leadership of Scott Thompson and the weekly commitment of Madeline Davoren, it would be impossible to run such a successful Juniors race. We would like to thank both Scott and Madeline for the huge amount of organisation and work they do each week as well as the many parents who are there to help out to ensure the kids have fun and race safely.

Eager to start racing, Twinnies Juniors race to the pool. Super Dave always smiling!

Happy weekend!

Tracy 🙂
