‘Twas three nights before Christmas,
when down at the pools,
Not a creature was stirring,
only triathlete fools.
The blue timing mat was faithfully laid out with care,
In hopes that some triathletes soon would be there.
The bikes were nestled offset on the rack,
With visions of dry roads ahead on the track.
When out on the lawn there arose a great clatter,
We sprang from our seats to see what was the matter,
Away through the gate, “What’s that?” we all yelled,
And tore up the grass to see what the Pres held.
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear?
But a bright new clock and some icy cold beer.
More rapid than eagles the old athletes they came,
And Matt whistled, and shouted, and called them by name;
“Now, Dave! Now, Kev! Now Jenny and Kent!
On, Darren! and Stu, it’s time for work we all went!
To the pool deck we go! To the top of the wall,
Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”
Matt was dressed in his tri suit, wiping sleep from his eyes,
not sleeping through the alarm despite cloudy skies.
With a hand full of prizes which he took from his boot,
Matt stumbled in like a drunk, carrying a sackful of loot.
He blew up his Santa and it shook all about,
It was chubby and plump and we sent up a shout.
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
Soon gave us to know there was nothing to dread.
All the timing chips ready, registration was done,
And now it was time to enjoy festive fun!
