Well here’s a pinch and a punch for the first day of the month, and a welcome to what is predicated to be a hot summer!, it started well, with 63 competitors experiencing the hot conditions this morning.
There were a couple of issue, firstly, registration closes at 05:50am EDST- got it. We had 5 people turn up this morning after race clock has started at 0600. On promise of never being late again, we manually recorded their times as they crossed the blue mat. That won’t be happening again, we will allow to you race, but we will not be recording any times.
On-line registration, we send out plenty of reminders and still some people forget?, everyone is encouraged to complete the quick on-line registration so that we can create the race list each Friday afternoon prior to the race, if you do register and don’t turn up, don’t worry we can see that when the race commences at 0600.
The timing system has up until this morning been working faultlessly, but about halfway through the swim leg the tablet decided to shut down and we experienced an outage. With quick hands by the time keeper today- Darren Jones we were able to get things back on line but the blue timing mat and the tablet weren’t talking so we had to manually tag each competitor as they came through.
This highlighted the need for everyone to call their number out clearly as they cross the mat. It also helps if you know your correct number and don’t use you son’s number- Ian Curnow. And remember that come 0600 if you are anywhere near the timing mat you timing chip will be activated indicating that your swim leg has commenced, so even if the chip is in your bag and not on your ankle – Jim Collins there is nothing we can do. And here’s a hint when you pack your tri gear either the night before or early on Saturday morning you need, 1) Bike 2) Bike Shoes 3) Timing Chip 4) Googles, 5 ) Running Shoes and 6) a Helmet. If you forget your helmet feel free to grab one from the kids bikes leaning against the tennis club fence. Julie West wanted the pick one, but it was too small so she borrowed Christian Andrews 7 year old sons helmet.
Thanks again to our marshals this morning, Christian Andrews at the top of Fraser, Viv Wright at Woodlands Drive RAB and John King at Lochlomond and thanks must also go to Jo Colja and Di Lance for being the light police today.
After all the mentions on this page, in the emails and facebook about the need to have operating front and rear lights, today we had two younger (than me) competitors, one with NO front or rear lights and one with no front light. It is a club rule that everyone no matter if the sun is well and truly up, MUST have operating lights front and rear.
President Matt received some great news from the Board of Twin Towns yesterday, we have been looking at upgrading our starting clock display which is currently a laptop connected to computer screen to display the time. Following on some great research chief Time Keeper Dave DQ de Closey mD, he found a stand alone, waterproof clock that fitted our needs, with Matt they made application to the Board of the Club and they have agreed to fund our new timing clock. Like sand through the hour glass, our timing clock has been ordered and should arrive soon.
Where do you dismount your bike? Some dismount approaching the orange cones, some at the cones, some even ride occasionally to the rack. Next week you will see a PINK line painted on the bitumen which indicates where you MUST dismount. Thanks to our official approved graffiti artists Glenn and Matt Lance.
