What an awesome roll up today, well done to you Queenslanders who were getting up about 3:30am and Pete Crowe, rumour has it you got to the pool for DD an hour early.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and state that today we saw the most number of competitors, a total of 86 across the three distances that we have seen in at least the past 3 years. Well at least in the double distance event, I’ll stand corrected if you can prove otherwise!

It was dark, really dark this morning, the grass was heavy with dew,  flashing red and white lights silhouetting the double distance competitors as they  moved quietly amongst the bike rake doing the last-minute checks.  Then the 40 eager bodies crowded across the pool deck, adjusted their googles listening intently to the race briefing from President Matt, and then it was on at 05:15 for the wave start, clicking their watches as they dove into the pool self-seeding in the first couple of laps. I know that in my lane, I was there to create an obstacle and was passed by Travis at least three times in the first 500m then there was Tracy who got past me a couple of times and then Pete Crowe. I was working on getting used to the crowded passing me in Noosa Ocean Swim.

With perfect weather conditions, we had 31 participated in the full single distance with 15 going around the intermediate course. Of course, our weekly race would not happen without our marshals. We appreciate everyone who puts their hand up to marshal, but three cheers for Ian Curnow, Kara Pease and Mark Whiticker who today were on point from just after 05:30am. And thanks to Jenny Scaysbrook, who no doubt would have been a DD competitor if she hadn’t broken her wrist on a recent training ride, Kev ‘the rock’ Bannerman and Kent Holmes.

We got to re-celebrate Col Woodward on his 301 races.  He was recognised last week on completing 300 races, but the crowd was slim so we celebrated again today. It was great to see Doug Neil back down at the Club. For those new to the club, head to the left-hand side of the website under ‘Site Navigation’ and scroll down to ‘History’ there you can get an insight to how Twin Towns Triathlon Club as you know it now evolved.

Our weekly random draw winners today were, Debbie Davis, Rhys Campbell, Amanda Hall and Joe Mollica, again we wish to acknowledge our sponsors Coast Cyclery, South Tweed Super Cycles and Therapies on Boyd Sports Massage and this week Twisted Fig Café.

We welcome a new weekly sponsor on board today, Gary Akehurst of the Twisted Fig Café located in the Bunnings/Harvey Norman complex. They have donated $10 vouchers which no doubt will be sought after by the twinnies members that visit after each Saturday’s race and to those that have yet to experience the awesome coffee, food and service lead by Bree and her team.

Marshals for next week 27 Oct are: Trev and Vicki Lawes and Glenn Lance.

Please remember that we have a breakfast after next weeks race – cost $2 per person.

Club Good luck to our current club champion Travis Coleman who has embarked on his professional triathlon career and will travel to race next week at Nepean and then Noosa the  following week.

We still need to fill a few spots on the marshaling page, please let me know via the contact page if you can help out.

Stu
