Twin Towns Triathlon Race Report # 17
Well another year is almost over and still be are seeing new members turning up- without advertising! Triathlon is still a growing sport and it’s a credit to the people the kicked off the Twin Towns Triathlon club many years ago and those that continue to support the club.
What is almost becoming a tradition, the lousy weather, what happened to summer, sunscreen, sunburn, flies streamy nights- hopefully its still coming- soooon.
See the latest from the Presidents desk.
As I mentioned our numbers are still growing with 6 new competitors today on top of our regularly 80 odd racers. It seems like the president is a broken record, continually reminding members to obey the road rules. For those who think we can just turn up and race each Saturday is a given, let me explain the process.
- The club makes written application to the Police and Council to conduct weekly races and includes a one off time trial- Club Championships.
- The application then goes before the Tweed Council Traffic Committee; membership of that committee consists of Councils Reps, Police, RTA Reps, Local MP.
- This committee has the overall authority to issue permission for us to compete
- For the club to hold the once a year Club Championships, we are required to have police control the two intersections with traffic lights- an additional cost that can’t be overcome.
So in short, as you know there are a few motorists that don’t like cyclist, and there are a few cyclists that don’t obey the road rules. Please ensure that whilst on the road and particularly when competing in our Club races that you obey the rules. If you see a club member breaching the rules, let them know that they are putting the entire club at risk of not receiving approval to hold our club races.
Doctor Bike held everybody’s attention whilst discussing the different styles of aero bars, the correct positioning and the benefit. Paul has offered to take questions from the floor. If there is a specific question you would like answered, send it to me enquiries@twintownstriathlon.org.au and I’ll pass it on, remember a question never asked is never answered.
Our transition area has been a little crowded for quite a while with the large tent and ropes creating a maze and obstacles. We are continuing to see competitors calling their number out from the middle of the tent. Please, Please, Please get as close as possible to the recorders when calling out your number, and remember the finish line is the TOP OF THE STAIRS, in front of the recorders.
