Twin Towns Triathlon Race No. 13 Report
Under gloomy skies and a little precipitation, we had a good roll up of 85 competitors. With wet road conditions the times for many were a little slow and thankfully everyone stayed up right. That tip for Dr ( Paul Woodger) Bike about staying away for the white paint on the road surfaces must have helped.
The Juniors had their final race for the year, culminating with a visit from a red and white athletic Santa arriving in Holmesy Hot Rod with Christmas music pumping aloud. Juniors will be back on the 7th January.
Dr Bike spoke in depth on the style of the bike seat/ saddle and diplomatically explained the reasons why men and women have different designs. He also talked on the position which is a personal choice, but said that basically the centre of the seat/saddle should be over the seat post. Some riders prefer to tip the front down, but again that is a personal choice. If you want to know your bum size, Dr Bike has a scientific instrument commonly referred to as an ‘arse-o-meter’ which will ‘map’ your bum and help identify the ‘perfect’ seat/saddle. But in saying that he included a clause- You need to give your seat/saddle about a month of use to break it and your bum in. And riding in wet conditions of wet clothing helped to fast track this.
Back to a few housekeeping issues, lanes 7 & 8 do not have lane ropes in place at the moment. Swimmers need to ensure correct pool etiquette when swimming laps. Keep to the left of the black line. We had some feedback from a motorist to one of our marshals last week enquiring if cyclists were governed by the road rules and required to stop at the red lights. We all know the rules. Stop at the stop line, no track standing and creeping into the intersection. It appears that the club is sometimes being blamed for road rule indiscretions by non Twin Towns Triathlon members who happen to be out riding at the same time. That includes the groups that ride 3 and 4 abreast up Fraser Drive.
For those wanting to go for an early morning swim and run, head down to Cudgen Headland SLSC and participate in the Kingscliff Run Swim Series. Registration at Cudgen Headland SLSC @ 06:30am NSW time.
